Alberta Fire Code Updated

Alberta Municipal Affairs published an updated Fire Code (2014) on May 1, 2015.  Major changes to the Code affecting the storage of flammable and combustible liquids for new installations include:

  • Overfill prevention devices if the tank is filled with a tight-fill connection
  • Underground tanks must be double-walled
  • Underground piping must be double-walled
  • Sumps are required under dispensers, fill points, transitions and turbines
  • Sensors are required in all sumps and interlocked with dispensers and pumps
  • Aboveground tank inventory control acceptable variance reduced to 1% from 2%
