Underground Tanks/Piping
Underground storage tank systems must be removed from the ground and disposed of in accordance with Section 4.3.16 and 4.3.15.3 of the Alberta Fire Code. If contamination is encountered during removal of tank(s), notification must be made to the fire authority in accordance with Article 4.1.6.4 of the Alberta Fire Code 2006 and Alberta Environment at 1-800-222-6514 in accordance with Section 110 of the Environmental Protection & Enhancement Act. Underground tanks must be removed within two years of being taken out of service.
- Complete a permit application to remove your underground tank.
- Upon removal, submit a tank closure report.
Aboveground Tanks
You are not required to obtain a permit to remove aboveground tanks unless it has underground piping. Upon removal of your aboveground tanks, please contact the PTMAA office at 1-866-222-8265 to update your records.
