Activities and mandate of the association are established by an eleven person Board of Directors. The structure of the Board is set in accordance with the membership sectors within the Association:
- Five Directors from companies that are members of the Canadian Petroleum Product Institute
- Two Directors from independent oil companies and retailers owning storage tanks
- Two directors from the industrial, commercial and government tank ownership sector
- One Director from non-governmental organizations and associations with interests in the objects of the Society
- One Director, appointed by the Minister of Municipal Affairs from one of the four membership sectors of the Society
